Smith’s riding journey with GWIF actually began when she was just five years old, when she took lessons for about a year before taking a few years off. Smith returned to GWIF in June 2025 to join the Mount Vernon IEA team. She started back with weekly lessons last year and, this spring, began riding twice a week with Taylor and Wren at Huntcliff. One thing that has remained constant throughout Smith’s riding journey is her love for the horses. When she was five, her favorite lesson horse was Classy—and when she returned to GWIF years later, that hadn’t changed! These days, Daisy has claimed the top spot, and Smith loves everything about her, calling her simply the best. Smith’s favorite part of riding with GWIF is getting to take lessons with her barn friends and, of course, spending time with her favorite horse. Smith has also been embracing new challenges as her confidence has grown. She completed her first cross country schooling this Summer and is already eager to get back out there for another. She is looking forward to her first schooling show in October and hopes to participate in many more throughout the year. That growth in confidence is exactly what stood out to Taylor and Wren, who both nominated Smith for Rider of the Week. The genuinely nervous girl they met almost a year ago has grown tremendously, becoming a skilled and thoughtful rider. Her trainers could not be more proud of her or the progress she continues to make with every ride. Congratulations, Smith!
