Weekend Recap:
Pine Top Spring Horse Trial

GWIF showed up and showed out at Pine Top’s Spring Horse Trial this weekend.  Nine horse/rider combos, eight finishing in the ribbons, and four American Eventing Championship qualifying rides - talk about representing!  As always, Pine Top Eventing delivered welcoming hospitality, stunning courses, and a fantastic weekend.

🗓️GWIF Goes: The Near Future🗓️

• March 27th - 29th: USEA Bouckaert Farm - Open to leasing/boarding clients with trainer permission. Divisions Offered: Starter - Advanced/Intermediate; Closing Date: Expired

• April 4th: XC Schooling - Available to all students capable of jumping 18” course. Location and departure time will be communicated the day before. Please plan on an all day adventure - pack water, drinks, snacks, sunscreen, rain gear, etc. Adult supervision and transportation required.

• April 5th: Meg Monthly Dressage Clinic - Clinic sign-up will open first to Bronze & Silver Training Program riders, then to clinic-only riders as space allows.

• April 5th: Make Up Lessons (Huntcliff) - If you ride at our Huntcliff Campus and will miss a lesson in April, this is your opportunity to make it up!

• April 6th - 12th: BARN CLOSURE (NO LESSONS) - Regularly scheduled barn closures are part of our normal tuition program. Makeup lessons are not scheduled for lessons missed during barn closures.

• April 10th - 12th: USEA Poplar Place Farm - Open to leasing/boarding clients with trainer permission. Divisions Offered: Starter - Advanced/Intermediate; Closing Date: 3/24

Barn Tip of the Week: Any Horse, Of Course!

Progress in this sport doesn’t come from riding the same, comfortable horse every week—it comes from being open to learning from every ride. When your trainer assigns you a horse, there’s always a purpose behind it. Each horse has something valuable to teach, whether it’s patience, balance, confidence, or feel.  Showing up ready and willing to ride any horse not only builds you into a more well-rounded rider, it also shows trust in your trainer’s program and plan.

Remember—horses read your feelings through your body and often mirror them right back. Confidence, relaxation, and a positive mindset set both you and your horse up for success.  Be open. Be adaptable. Be ready to learn!

🔦 Vendor Spotlight: Sara Hathaway 🔦
4 Hooves Hoof Care, LLC

Since April of 2021, Sara Hathaway has been keeping our GWIF horses’ hooves balanced and healthy as their trusted farrier.  Whether it’s routine trims, corrective measures, or advice for overall hoof health, Sara’s expertise helps our horses feel their best from the ground up.  She is an absolutely essential part of the GWIF team.

A horse owner her entire life, Sara’s hoof care journey started in 2019 when her own horse was diagnosed with Navicular Disease. Embracing this career gave her the hope, education, and confidence she needed to better understand her horse and successfully rehab him back to soundness and comfort. Now she enjoys the opportunity to help empower and educate horse owners just like herself through hoof care and progressive practices.

As a graduate of The University of Georgia’s Animal Science program and forever student of the horse, Sara has experience working with navicular, laminitis, founder, negative palmar and plantar angles, club feet, side bone, ringbone, and many other cases. 

Sara currently cares for about 200 horses with a collection of barefoot, glue on shoes, or hoof boots, and everything from pasture puffs to PSG dressage champions and Prelim Level eventers. The options available today for hoof protection go far and beyond traditional open-heeled metal shoes and Sara loves getting creative with owners to find the hoof care setup that keeps their horse happy and comfortable.

Fun fact: Pilgrim was the first GWIF horse Sara met and is still one of her favorites today!
