Layla Magill has been part of the GWIF family for nearly five years, riding twice a week and spending plenty of her weekends at the barn helping with chores and lessons. She also served as a CHAMP Camper for John’s Creek almost every week of Summer camp this year, making her one of the most familiar faces on campus. Her favorite lesson horse at John’s Creek is Gator. Layla says that she and Gator push each other just enough to make a great duo, and she appreciates both his attitude and his “slight annoyingness!” One thing Layla likes most about GWIF is the variety of horses. From a super-lazy old lesson pony to a green horse learning to jump for the first time, she enjoys the opportunity to work with all kinds of horses. She credits that variety with helping her build confidence and become a better rider, even when every ride doesn’t go perfectly. Looking ahead, Layla wants to continue riding different horses, growing as a rider, and helping David get new horses settled into the John’s Creek lesson program. It’s that willingness to contribute, learn, and encourage that earned Layla her Rider of the Week nomination. David describes Layla as the kind of rider who comes early, stays late, volunteers on weekends, and is always ready to help. She willingly rides horses in the program that need extra schooling and is genuinely enjoyed by everyone on campus. During lessons, she’s the friend cheering for and encouraging her peers every step of the way. Layla isn’t just a John’s Creek student - she is an integral part of the barn community and we are so grateful to have her!
