🗓️ GWIF Goes: The Near Future 🗓️

• September 18th: Make Up Lessons (Huntcliff) - If you ride at our Huntcliff Campus and will miss a lesson in September, this is your opportunity to make it up! Note that makeup lessons are now on Friday evenings.

• September 19th: Schooling Show: Big Cheese - Open to all students. Please consult your instructor before signing up. Ashland does not offer on-site stabling. We will both haul and compete on Saturday. Be prepared for a very early morning departure from GWIF. Closing Date: extended to TODAY (Tues) at midnight!

• September 23rd: Cindy Thaxton Dressage Clinic - Join dressage judge Cindy Thaxton for a 45 minute clinic. Open to leasing/boarding clients only. Time schedule will be communicated closer to date.

• September 25th: Make Up Lessons (John's Creek) - If you ride at our John’s Creek Campus and will miss a lesson in September, this is your opportunity to make it up! Note that makeup lessons are now on Friday evenings.

• September 26th: XC Schooling - ADULTS ONLY! - Available to all ADULT students capable of jumping 18” course. Please ask your instructor before signing up if this would be your first XC Schooling. Personal transportation required.

• October 3rd: XC Schooling - Available to all students capable of jumping 18” course. Please ask your instructor before signing up if this would be your first XC Schooling. Adult supervision and transportation required.

• October 9th - 11th: USEA Poplar Place Farm - Open to leasing/boarding clients with trainer permission. Divisions offered: Intro - Prelim; Closing Date: 9/22

September Schooling Show

🎶 Rain, rain, GO AWAY! 🎶

GWIF riders showed serious determination at Bouckaert Farms on Saturday, where a steady downpour soaked the grounds for a good portion of the day...followed by a tropical oven-baking. 💦🔥 The show went on, and so did they! Despite the challenging conditions, our crew stayed focused and continued to put in their best efforts, bringing home some fantastic results. Check out their soggy shots - talk about grit! 💪

🪖 Safety Awareness Week 🪖

Equestrian Safety Awareness Week runs September 14th–20th, making it the perfect time to give your safety gear a little attention. Take a few minutes to check those helmets, XC vests, and safety stirrups for fit, condition, and function.  If something is past its prime, this is a great week to upgrade.

Many equestrian suppliers, both local and online, are offering up to 20% off select safety gear.  Below are discounts advertised by one of our favorite local tack shops, Atlanta Saddlery.  Looking good in the saddle is great, but it is coming home safe that matters most!

Deja vu, anyone? If this sounds familiar, you’re not wrong! This week’s quote and tip are repeat customers from the not-so-distant newsletter past. It’s a topic that comes up often and feels worth revisiting.

Progress in this sport doesn’t come from riding the same, comfortable horse every week - it comes from being open to learning from every ride. When your trainer assigns you a horse, there’s always a purpose behind it. Each horse has something valuable to teach!

💜 Have a favorite pony? Yep, we ALL do!
🔥 Burning desire to ride that pony? Sometimes, you just can’t help it.
🙏 Request that pony from your trainer? No problem, but not for the day of.
🚫 Manually change your own assignment on the lesson board? NOPE.

Showing up ready and willing to ride your assigned horse not only builds you into a more well-rounded rider, but shows trust in your trainer’s program and plan.

Emily Crumlish

This week, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on Emily Crumlish, whose GWIF journey began back in 2018 when she celebrated her sixth birthday as a first-time GWIF camper. Later that year, she began taking lessons at our John’s Creek location, where horses like Giblet, Scout, and Griffin helped shape some of her earliest riding memories. Today, Emily is leasing her favorite horse, Justin - a sweet, goofy guy who always tries his best and has some famously silly eating habits!

Some of Emily’s favorite GWIF memories come from annual IEL Championship shows at Stable View, where the long weekends are filled with friendship and teamwork. Winning the Spirit Award and Hobby Horse Competition are some memorable moments.

Now, Emily is looking ahead to an exciting new chapter. Her goal for this year is to begin competing at the Novice level (hint: she and Justin will make their Novice debut this weekend at Ashland!). Emily hopes to compete at Novice at AECs in 2027.

Emily was nominated for Rider of the Week by two of her trainers, David and Wren, for different, but meaningful, reasons.

David nominated Emily for stepping up when she was needed. This Summer, Emily jumped in to help with multiple weeks of camp at Johns Creek, providing an extra hand when David needed more support last minute. Her special knowledge of chickens (she has chickens of her own at home!) made her particularly well suited to lead campers during farm animal activities. Emily did a solid job giving campers the opportunity to interact with the chickens while making sure the birds stayed safe and happy. Her willingness to jump in and help, combined with her knowledge and confidence, made a real difference.

Wren nominated Emily in recognition of the dedication and hard work she has put into her riding skills this Summer. Emily has made noticeable strides in developing her riding and, perhaps most importantly, in learning to ride in a way that supports what Justin needs. Watching Emily and Justin grow together is a great example of the partnership that eventing is all about.
