GWIF Spring Barn Show

It was a beautiful day for a barn show on our home turf! We’re thrilled so many riders and their families joined us—especially those stepping into the show ring for the first time. We hope you had a fantastic experience, learned something new, and enjoyed a day at the barn. Don’t forget to pick up your ribbons from Heather at your next lesson!

A special shoutout to our incredible dressage judge, Candee Niss, whose energy and generosity made the day even more meaningful. From ride-a-test clinics to judging combined training tests, she gave nearly eight hours of her time with remarkable endurance and kindness.

We’re also deeply grateful to everyone who supported the Huntcliff Stables Foundation by enjoying a lunch plate or stopping by the bar. Your support helps fund the foundation’s nonprofit initiatives and makes a real difference. We’re lucky to have such an amazing barn community!

GWIF SPRING BARN SHOW RESULTS

🗓️GWIF Goes: The Near Future🗓️

• April 24th - 25th (THIS WEEKEND!): Poplar Place Schooling Show - Open to all students. Please consult your instructor before signing up. We will haul out on Friday and compete on Saturday.

• May 1st - 3rd: USEA Stable View - Open to leasing/boarding clients with trainer permission. Divisions offered: Starter - Advanced; Closing Date: Expired

• May 1st: Make Up Lessons (John’s Creek) - If you ride at our John’s Creek Campus and missed a lesson in April, this is your opportunity to make it up!

• May 8th: Make Up Lessons (John’s Creek) - If you ride at our John’s Creek Campus and will miss a lesson in May, this is your opportunity to make it up!

• May 9th: Meg Monthly Dressage Clinic- Join Meg for a deeper dive into dressage skills that you’d like to focus on.

• May 14th - 17th: USEA Intercollegiate & Interscholastic Eventing League Championships at Stable View Farm - Rally behind our GWIF Purple Dragons as they Bring the Fire! 🔥🐉 Twelve fierce riders will take the field, forming three unstoppable teams ready to defend their titles in both eventing and spirit competitions. Let’s go, Dragons—time to ignite the arena!

• May 23rd: XC Schooling - Available to all students capable of jumping 18” course. Please ask your instructor before signing up if this would be your first XC Schooling. Adult supervision and transportation required.

• May 24th: Make Up Lessons (Huntcliff) - If you ride at our Huntcliff Campus and missed a lesson in May, this is your opportunity to make it up!

• May 23rd - May 29th: BARN CLOSURE - Make up lessons are not offered for lessons missed during scheduled barn closures. Leasing clients may exercise their horses as usual.

🌿 Barn Tip of the Week 🌿
All that Glitters is Not Green

That lush, vibrant green grass popping up this Spring may look like the ultimate salad bar - and to our horses, it absolutely is! But before you let them graze to their heart’s content, know that Spring grass can be a sweet treat with a sneaky side. 🧁🍰🍪

Spring grass is unexpectedly high in sugars - particularly in the late afternoon and early evening hours when lessons are taking place. When horses take in too much of this high-sugar grass, it can increase the risk of laminitis, digestive upset, and metabolic issues.  Horses that are “easy keepers” or have a history of hoof problems are especially at risk.

Grazing doesn’t have to be off-limits! Think of Spring grazing like dessert - best served in small portions. Short sessions (10-15 minutes) will let them enjoy the treat without overdoing it and risking their health.

🔦 Rider of the Week 🔦
Kristin Fullerton

Kristin began riding at age 10 in Florida, following her best friend into weekly lessons. After moving to Georgia in middle school, she found her “place” at a small eventing barn in Cumming, where she competed through Novice at venues like Pine Top and Big Bear. She later stepped away from riding in college to focus on theatre, but returned to the sport this past August as an early 40th birthday gift to herself.  

After looking for an eventing barn that would be welcoming to adult amateurs who aren’t necessarily looking to compete, Kristin joined GWIF’s John’s Creek campus and quickly felt right at home. She primarily rides with David, but has also enjoyed lessons with Marissa.

While Kristin loves all the John’s Creek horses, Daisy is her clear favorite - challenging, opinionated, and always keeping her engaged in the saddle. Her favorite GWIF memory so far is attending an XC schooling in March, where she got to return to her favorite phase of eventing with Daisy - despite an unexpected tumble!

David nominated Kristin, noting her determination and dedication not only in riding, but in all things horse and barn related. She rides any horse he assigns and brings a consistent willingness to learn and push herself. Beyond the saddle, Kristin goes above and beyond with DIY barn projects that help keep the farm clean, organized, and decorated. She has added a touch of character to the campus and enhances everything she gets involved in.

While David might say that Kristin’s upcoming riding goals should include keeping her shoulders back without reminding…for Kristin, the goal will always be simple: to have fun and enjoy being back in the sport she missed for so many years.
